Are You An Entrepreneur Who Wants To Expand, Improve Profitability Or Improve Operations? Are You Thinking Of Starting A Business?
SCORE® is a non-profit organization, sponsored by the Small Business Administration, offering free, confidential counseling and mentoring to small businesses and non-profit organizations. Every month, the Simsbury Public Library offers free, one-hour face to face appointments with a SCORE® counselor from the Greater Hartford SCORE® Chapter 56.  They will work with you on every aspect of business planning, start-up, management and growth. Appointments are available from 10 - 2 pm. Pre-registration is required

Free Full-Length Practice PSAT Test

Attention current Freshmen and Sophomores! To give students a leg up in today’s highly competitive college admissions market, Simsbury Library is partnering with Kaplan Test Prep, the nation’s oldest and largest provider of test preparation and admissions services, to offer a free PSAT Practice Test for area high school students. Students will have the opportunity to sample the test and gauge their strengths and weaknesses. The test lasts for 3 hours and simulates the actual PSAT in every way and is proctored by a professional under realistic conditions. In addition to taking a free practice test under timed conditions that simulate the actual PSAT administration, students will receive feedback on their performance, including an analysis of their strengths and weaknesses, helping them to adjust their preparation accordingly. Students can expect a call within two weeks of the test from a testing specialist who can send them an e-copy of their score and explain the various metrics in the report. Seating is limited; pre-registration is required.


Microsoft Excel 2007 Intermediate for Business- Create a Budget

You will create a budget, format it, and learn how to insert columns and rows, and create totals for columns and rows. You’ll also copy and move formulas, and learn the basics of printing an Excel spreadsheet. This is a great class to continue learning Excel, refresh or consolidate your existing skills. Prerequisite: Introduction to Excel, entering data in an Excel spreadsheet and creating basic formulas. Diana Lemcoff, owner of Leidan Consulting and former Manchester Community College professor will be your instructor. Space is limited to 20 seats; pre-registration is required.


Leveraging LinkedIn - Beyond the Basics

Do you have a LinkedIn account and connections but feel you aren't getting the most out of this powerful networking tool? During this hands-on session, Carol Mon will teach you advanced LinkedIn tools and techniques. Come prepared to take your profile and LinkedIn knowledge to a higher level. Note: You must have a LinkedIn profile (70% complete or more) and be comfortable using the basic LinkedIn features (making connections, using the search tools, editing your profile). Interviewing Made Comfortable: Fitting In and Standing Out!

Marcia LaReau, PhD, Motivational Speaker and President of Forward Motion, LLC will discuss today’s interviewing challenges and help you improve how you present yourself in professional settings. Based on the latest research on this topic, the presentation will include: establishing your professional image both online and in person; comfortably expressing your passion and enthusiasm; demonstrating your skills and professionalism; finding the right words for standard questions. Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Interviewing for Employment by Marcia LaReau, PhD. Registration is requested.
