This site is packed with information about USA's 50 states. Each country profile provides facts from the state's admission to statehood all the way to its weather-60 categories in all! This site provides links to the 50 states' flags, songs, birds, and news sites, and also includes a feature called "Tools." Under "Tools," you have access to 36 links to games and activities, blank maps, FAQ's on a variety of state topics, and fill-in-the-blank worksheets, just to name a few.

This site is geared towards middle-school students and is filled with activities that kids can do at home with their families. Each challenge provides descriptions of the math involved, along with where math is used in real world situations. Hints are available to get you started.

This site, a cooperative project between the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, and the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration., presents the 41 sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places that are important to the civil rights movement, as well as the Selma-to-Montgomery March route--a Department of Transportation designated "All-American Road". The site also does a fine job of presenting basic information on the civil rights struggle -- from the groups and indviduals involved, the strategies that they employed, and initial "prize" of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Native American Links

This could be one of the best collections of Native American links on the WWW. The author if this site is Lisa Mitten, who describes herself as a "mixed-blood Mohawk urban Indian." She has created an easy to navigate site that is efficiently categorized and that provides "access to home pages of individual Native Americans and Nations" and to other sites about American Indians.

Lewis and Clark

Easy to navigate through and very informative, this PBS site on Lewis and Clark provides the user an opportunity to read journal entries of corp members of the expedition, choosing which members entries to read, or reading all of the entries. For an interesting twist, you can lead the expedition through unexplored territory by clicking on the "Into the Unknown" link. This link, allows the user to lead the expedition on its journey of new territory. Also included on this site, an extensive bibliography and related sites, expedition time-line, noted historian interviews, and maps. An exclusive video interview with Ken Burns, the director and co-producer of "Lewis and Clark:The Journey of the Corps of Discovery".

Information in the Mosaic can be used by the serious scholar or the casual browser. Young users will need guidance. This is a GREAT source for photographs. The introduction indicates "nearly 500 years" of black history is covered.
