Mother/Daughter Book Group
7th & 8th Grades
General Meeting Rules: I get the books
for you through interlibrary loan. As long as the books are returned
within a few days of the meeting, there will be no fine. If you have a
fine, let me know and I’ll delete it. Although I encourage the mothers to
speak, the main players in this group are the daughters. They should be
forefront in the discussion and they vote for the
books. (Mothers get to vote when a tie needs to be broken).
Format for discussion
(Girls pick which activity they would like
to do – changes each month)
Feeders of the Hungry – bring in food associated with the book (if
possible) 2 volunteers
Word Wizard – looks up and shares meanings of new vocabulary
The Illuminator – pulls out the Big Ideas
The Connector – Compares ideas in the book to other books and/or
movies
The Questioner – comes up with open-ended questions to ask the
other kids (Maximum – 5 questions)
The Character Shrink – choose one character to "psychoanalyze"
Stateswoman – Facts about the location the book takes place in
Game Warden – develop a short, fun activity connected with the book
The Gossip – tell us a little something about the author.
HAVE FUN! I am a librarian, not a teacher. This should be a fun forum for
book sharing, amiable conversation and FOOD!
