Powers' book, Flags of Our Fathers, which he co-wrote with James Bradley, was made into a popular movie that was partly produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Clint Eastwood. The book, co-written in 2000, was #1 on the New York Times hardcover non-fiction list for 5 weeks and remained on the best seller list for 46 weeks. He also collaborated with Col. Robert K. Morgan in "The Man Who Flew the Memphis Belle" and John Baldwin in "Last Flag Down."

Ron was born in Hannibal, Missouri - Mark Twain's boyhood hometown - and has an affection for him as his literary ideal. His fascination for Twain began in childhood and later lead him to author two books: Dangerous Water: A Biography of the Boy Who Became Mark Twain.

His talk, "Mark Twain : Making Him Fresh Again", will be held in the Library's Program Room at 12 Noon, on Wednesday, November 7th. There will also be some discussion on the books he collaborated on as well as a question and answer period. This is a program you won't want to miss!
