The Simsbury Library, along with neighboring libraries will be upgrading their software at the end of May. The library will maintain regular hours during this upgrade period, but some services will not be available. We are expecting this period to run from May 27th – June 3rd.
We’ve put together some FAQ’s, but if you have any questions that are not listed below, please call us at 860-658-7663 option 2.
Will I be able to check out books during the upgrade period?
○ Yes! Staff will be able to check out materials for you to take home.
Can I still use a photo ID to checkout?
○ No, during the upgrade period you will need to have your library card or number, either a physical card or saved digitally in order to check out materials.
Will I be able to access my library account?
○ No, staff and patrons will not be able to access any accounts from May 27th to June 3rd.
Will I need to make a new account to use the online catalog after June 3rd?
○ Yes, after the upgrade, you will need to create a new online library account, and set a new password.
Can I still check out materials from Libby?
○ Yes! You will still be able to use online resources like Libby, Kanopy, Palace Project, Mango languages and more!
Can I place holds?
○ You will only be able to place local holds until May 27th, at which point, you will not be able to place any new holds until after June 3rd.
What about the items I requested prior to May 27th?
○ You will maintain your spot on the hold list, and we will resume fulfilling those holds after the upgrade. However, we are expecting there to be delays in fulfilling holds until late June.
Will I still have my reading history?
○ Yes! Your reading history and any reading lists you’ve created will transfer over to the new system.
Will I be charged late fees during this time?
○ The Simsbury library is fine free! There will be no late fines assessed during or after the upgrade period.
Will my family remain linked together?
○ Linked relationships are not carrying over. If you would like someone to pick up holds for you, please let staff know so we can make the necessary updates.
What exactly is being upgraded?
○ We will have a brand new catalog, a new mobile app that will let you check out materials on your own, and a new website launching in early June!
